Evolve

Evolve is still a few months away from release, but it is one of the most interesting titles on this list, and certainly the one I’m looking forward to the most. And you can’t blame me it beat out stiff competition to win the Game of Show award at E3 2014. Developed by the creators of Left 4 Dead, Evolve has garnered a lot of attention for its innovative 4-vs-1 competitive multiplayer. Those odds may not look particularly inviting at first, but when you fill out the blanks and start calling it “4 humans vs 1 huge monster”, you’ll cosy up to the odds.

Set loose on a map, the humans (known as the hunters) are tasked with tracking down the monster, which is also human-controlled. The monster, by consuming various life forms populating the map, can evolve its ability and size.

So while the monster may start off as comparatively weaker than the human squad, if it can survive and evolve itself sufficiently, the hunters may well turn into the hunted.

The game promises different hunter and monster classes, and even a single-player mode, though not much is known about it yet.

The cherry on this monster of a cake for Xbox One owners is that not only will they get DLC first, but they will also be able to play the game long before anyone else, thanks to an Xbox-only open beta in January.

GENDER: Multiplayer first-person shooter
