Wolfenstein: The Old Blood, BJ Blazkowicz is back, baby!

Isn’t this a cracking little surprise? It’s not been too long since we eviscerated half of a parallel universe Nazi Germany, and here bounces Blazkowicz again, ready to lay another democratic smackdown on some swastikas in this prequel.

In With The Old
Due for a standalone digital release on 6 May, Wolfenstein: The Old Blood takes Blaz back to 1946; before the events of last year’s surprisingly super The New Order. Priced at £14.99, this new adventure  spans eight chapters, covering  two interconnected stories which tie into last year’s full-fat Wolfey.

Rudi Jäger And The Den Of Wolves (the first part of the prequel) focuses on your favourite Nazi arse-kicker’s battles against a crazed prison warden. Heading to the pokey seems like an ideal fit for the set-piece style displayed by MachineGames in The New Order, and will hopefully provide the perfect environment for self-contained storytelling remember that brilliant labour camp level?

Helga Is Other People
Part the second entitled The Dark Secrets Of Helga Von Schabbs not only rocks the greatest name in the history of German pronunciation, but also seems to court the trinket-digging spirit of Raiders Of The Lost Ark. According to Bethesda Softworks global community lead Matt Grandstaff, it sees our hero led, “to the city of Wulfburg where an obsessed Nazi archaeologist is exhuming mysterious artefacts.”

Regardless of whether the Blaz man gets his hands on the Ark Of The Covenant or not, it’s good to see Wolfenstein back. The New Order was one of 2014’s best sleeper hits, boasting superb pacing and pleasing, left-field character choices. Here’s to more Nazi-nerfing.
